IND vs SL, 1st ODI Highlights:
IND vs SL 1st ODI: A highlight
It all happened in the middle of the last over when Shami Mankads Shanaka scored 98, but Rohit withdrew the appeal. Fortunately, Shanaka reached his 100 just a few balls later.
Rohit Sharma talks about being dismissed at the non-striker's end "I didn't know Shami did that (runs) and he was batting on 98. The way he batted was great, we couldn't get him out like that. It's not what we thought, congratulations to him, he played really well. well." Reflecting on the game, he said, "Really impressed. We started well with the bat, it was a great effort from every batsman. Every batsman had a platform, I thought we could have bowled better. We didn't want to. The conditions were not easy. Gotta be critical. It wasn't easy bowling under the lights, especially when it was dewy. If you want to win, everyone has to come to the party, but we bowled well up front. There are certain areas to work on. All eleven members must make a concerted effort."
Second ODI between India and Sri Lanka
When: Thursday, January 12 at 1.30pm local time
Where: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
What to expect:
More runs and runs at a batsman-friendly venue. A sunny day with temperatures in the early 20s and a cloudy afternoon are on the cards.
There was much debate about benching Ishan Kishan based on his recent performances, but Shubman Gill added to the dilemma as he scored a 60-ball 70 in the series opener. With the ball, Umran Malik repaid the faith placed in him by taking wickets in the middle overs. India should retain the same XI that led the tournament.
Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Umran Malik, Yuzvendra Chahal
Sri Lanka: Dilshan Madhushanka dismissed Rohit, but otherwise got off to a middle-order start at 1 for 43. In his place, Lahiru Kumar can be an experienced option. Left-arm spinner Dunit Vellalage was also ineffective, making way for Mahesh Thiekshana.
Probable XI: Pathum Nishanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Vanindu Hasaranga, Dunit Vellalage/Mahish Thiekshana, Chamika Karunaratne, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madhushanka
